Academic Web Manager

Reports Directly To:

Vice Provost (for Planning, Assessment, and Information Resource Management)

Function:

Assumes overall responsibility for the portion of the University website falling under Academic Affairs. Facilitates communication between web content providers (located in colleges, departments and administrative units) and editors, and those responsible for overall web architecture, hardware, software, design and standards. Leads the architectural design of the portion of the University website falling under Academic Affairs. Interacts professionally with all internal and external customers using strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

The performance of the duties outlined below must be carried out within the mission of the University: to help create an effective learning environment for students; to treat all persons with dignity and respect; and to actively demonstrate an attitude of willing service and teamwork.

  1. Develops and implements short- and long-term goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the portion of the University website falling under Academic Affairs that support the mission, goals and objectives of Cleveland State University.
  2. Coordinates the work of a web team comprised of staff responsible for visual design; web server, security, and hardware maintenance; web training; and web support services. Coordinates and tracks work flow, schedules, projects and committee decisions. Maintains required records and files, compiles required statistics. Incorporates principles of teamwork with all organizational levels in the resolution, completion and follow-up of various responsibilities.
  3. Leads the architectural design of the portion of the University website falling under Academic Affairs. Manages the top level of the Academic Affairs web sites and assumes responsibility for the maintenance of related pages. Coordinates all aspects of the production and maintenance of these web sites.
  4. Within the provenance of Academic Affairs, facilitates the provision and maintenance of web pages that cross college and departmental lines. Provides and maintains shared resources and web tools (such as templates and CGI scripts). Identifies training and support needs; coordinates the provision of those services. Assists colleges, departments and administrative units in interpreting and adhering to standards.
  5. Supervises assigned personnel by providing orientation, guidance, assistance and developmental training as required. Approves or makes recommendations regarding employment, performance appraisals, salary changes, promotions, transfers, and terminations.
  6. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in continuing education courses, professional organizations, seminars and workshops, reading current literature and maintaining professional contacts in the community.
  7. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Demonstrated proficiency with web-related technologies such as Java, HTML, Perl, CGI scripting; familiarity with UNIX. Two to five (2 - 5) years experience working with web pages. Graphic design capability. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical project leadership experience. Supervisory and project management skills, including ability to train others in web-related skills. Ability to work with university faculty, staff, and administration.
