The mission of the AHANA Program is to increase the success and retention rates of first-year AHANA Program participants. The program connects first-year underrepresented students with upper-class peer mentors. Peer mentors coordinate opportunities for students to become acclimated to the campus, as well as to develop their personal, academic, social and cultural experiences through programming and guidance.

To begin to take advantage of what the AHANA Program has to offer, please enroll in our free, optional, non-residential mini-summer bridge program Running S.T.A.R.T., by selecting yes under the heading “Enroll for Summer Program. “ Once you submit your application, you will be contacted within 3-5 business days regarding the status of your application. Welcome to the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs AHANA Program. As a program participant we ask that you make a commitment to yourself and AHANA so you may fully benefit from the support services the Program has to offer.

Our staff will work closely with you to provide comprehensive services and events as resources allow. As a participating student: you will be responsible for the following:

  • Attend two of the Let’s Get Acquainted Activities the first week of the fall semester
  • Attend mandatory AHANA New Mentee Orientation session – September/January
  • Attend four (4) Tuesday Connections from 12:00 – 12:45 pm
  • Attend four (4) Nuts & Bolts You Need to Succeed Workshops ,Thursday’s from 12:00 – 12:45 pm
  • Attend two multicultural events, or workshops per semester.
  • Meet monthly with your assigned AHANA/ODAMA Staff member
  • Meet with your AHANA Peer Mentor at least every two weeks (via email, phone, or in-person meetings)
  • Complete a confidential AHANA Program evaluation online near the end of the semester
  • Participate in a year-end-focus group
  • Attend annual Recognition Dinner
  • Demonstrate a commitment by carrying out agreed upon goals and academic action plans developed in consultation with the AHANA Program Staff
  • Update your contact information to both your peer mentor and the Program when changes occur.
