Mission Statement
The mission of the AHANA Program is to improve the academic success, retention, and graduation of AHANA freshmen through structured support and peer mentoring relationships. AHANA staff and students coordinate opportunities for first year AHANA students to become acclimated to the Cleveland State University, as well as to develop your personal, academic, social and cultural experiences through programming and guidance.

AHANA Running S.T.A.R.T. (Striving Toward Academic Readiness Together)

A free four-day non-residential mini summer bridge program focused on preparing incoming AHANA freshman for college success! Participation in Running S.T.A.R.T automatically enrolls you in the AHANA Program for the Fall Semester.

Expectations of AHANA Program Participants

To receive services of the AHANA Program, participants are expected to:

  • Have a sincere interest in developing a relationship that supports your efforts toward graduation
  • Have completed an AHANA Program application
  • Attend CSU fulltime (12 credits or more) as a first-year student (freshman standing)
  • Attend a mandatory AHANA New Mentee Orientation session
  • Attend four “Tips on Tuesdays” Workshops during the academic year
  • Attend four “Keys to Academic Success” Workshops during the academic year
  • Meet monthly with an AHANA Program staff member
  • Connect with your AHANA Peer Mentor at least twice monthly (via email, phone, or in-person meeting)
  • Complete a confidential AHANA Program evaluation online at the end of Fall and Spring Semesters
  • Demonstrate a commitment to carry out agreed upon goals and academic action plans developed in consultation with the AHANA Program staff
