Title: Health and Wellness Graduate Assistant

General Description
As part of the Division of Student Affairs and Minority Affairs, Health and Wellness Services and the Department of Student Life are responsible for providing students with quality health and wellness care and prevention programs to enhance the University experience! We focus on the whole student by providing direct care and by conducting programs, outreach, and resources for healthy lifestyle choices. We encourage and support self-care, self-responsibility, learning and personal growth. Professional staff, a wellness resource center and information network are the foundations of the service. Educational programs and project collaboration with community and campus resources are also functions of Health and Wellness Services and the Department of Student Life.

Academic Value
We provide a training ground for graduate students seeking careers in health education, community health and student affairs. Students enrolled in masters program focusing in adult learning, health and wellness, higher education and/or population nursing are encouraged to apply: development theory learned in the classroom may be applied to practical situations throughout the assistantship including the chance to execute program planning models.

Responsibilities:

Assit professional staff to promote and maintain the health and well being of CSU population.

  • Assist with the development and coordination of department events, outreach and activities.
  • Assist in creating closer ties between the academic and services sectors of the university.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining materials in the Wellness Resource Center.
  • Assist in selecting, reviewing and evaluating current education literature in print and on web.
  • Compile, maintain and update departmental web health education sites in conjunction with other departmental personnel.
  • Assist with the recruitment and training of peer educators.
  • Coordinate at least one education/training project.
  • Coordinate one awareness week program.
  • Support, assist with and attend departmental events and service activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the departments.

Qualifications:

  • Admission to a graduate program at Cleveland State University; preference given to students studying health education, nursing, community health, social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Skills and experience in event planning, implementation and evaluation preferred.
  • Computer literate (Word,Excel,Publisher); experience with desktop and/or web publishing is a plus.
  • Interest and experience in health and wellness.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Mature individual who is able to work as a team member as well as independently.
  • Intercultural skills and a sincere interest promoting quality health education and in serving students.

Terms of Employment:

  • One or two semesters: Fall, and Spring
  • Ten to twenty (10-20) hours per week; may include some evening and/or weekend commitments.

Compensation:

  • Graduate, resident tuition up to 9 semester credit hours for the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Monetary stipend based on the schedule developed by the College of Graduate Studies paid in bi-weekly installments dependent upon availability.
