Training

Most health and safety regulations enacted by federal, state and/or local regulatory agencies, particularly the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), have a training program. Employers must provide training programs pertinent to a particular safety program at no cost to the employee on company time.

The University Department of Environmental Health and Safety facilitates periodic training for all employees as required by a particular environmental health or safety regulations. Some training is annually required while other training is only initial training upon employment.

Training developed for specific University Health and Safety Programs, conducted by DEHS are as follows:

  • Asbestos Awareness Training
  • Hazard Communication/Hazardous Waste Training (initial and retraining)
  • Laboratory Safety/Hazardous Waste Training - Chemical Hygiene (initial and retraining)
  • Respiratory Protection
  • X-Ray Generating Equipment

Specific, highly specialized training (Asbestos Worker, Arc Flash, Hazardous Waste Management, Lockout Tagout, etc…) is provided by sending employees to established and licensed training agencies where needed.
