The Career Conversations program helps students meet with professionals with experience in the work force. Professionals get the chance to share their insights, and students gain information which is vital to making informed career related decisions.
Professionals involved in Career Conversations may be asked a variety of questions about their work. The topics of conversation may include: type of education needed for the career, description of a typical work day, job search strategies, and what they consider the best and worst aspects of the profession.
It is important to note that students will be contacting professionals for information only. Students may be gathering information for many reasons including: researching professional interests, gathering information on career paths, writing a paper for Career Services classes, entering or re-entering the job market, or retraining for a second career.
Career Conversations offers mutual benefits. Professionals gain the satisfaction of knowing that they aided a future professional, and students gain career information. Career Services estimates that professionals will be contacted approximately four times a year. These conversations last no longer than an hour and will average a half hour in length.
