The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Bureau of Health Professions created the Nurse Faculty Loan Program to address a critical shortage of qualified nurse faculty in schools of nursing in the United States. The purpose of the loan program is to provide financial assistance to full-time and part-time graduate students who intend to take a full-time teaching position in a school of nursing immediately following graduation. Up to 85% of the total loan will be forgiven if the recipient stays in a teaching position for four (4) years following graduation. (Financial assistance covers tuition, fees, books, laboratory expenses, and other reasonable education expenses. This stipend does not support living expenses, student transportation/cost, room/board, or personal expenses.)
This loan may be granted to a Registered Nurse either in the PhD in Urban Education with a Nursing Education Specialization (or) the MSN program at Cleveland State University’s School of Nursing who intends to be a full-time or part-time student until graduation, followed by full-time employment as a faculty in any school of nursing following graduation. Students who are enrolled in the MSN program must be enrolled in either the Nursing Education track, the Forensic or the Specialized Population track. Students who are enrolled in the Forensic or Specialized Population track must also be enrolled in the Nursing Education Certificate courses. Please note that unfortunately, HRSA has deemed that the Clinical Nurse Leader track is not eligible for this loan program.
