Disability Services

Read&Write

Read&Write is a powerful set of reading and writing assistance tools for people with learning disabilities. OrbitNote is an application that is used through the Chrome and Edge Browsers for reading documents online. Cleveland State University has purchased an unlimited site license so that our students can benefit from these tools on their personal computers. Visit the Read&Write Installation Instructions to setup the program. Pleas contact the Assistant Director AT & Access at j.dell@csuohio.edu to request an appointment to learn how to use the product or for support.

For students receiving alternative text, Read&Write has excellent reading features and the ability to do optical character recognition on documents which are image files. The reading tools that will be helpful for our students receiving alternative text are the ability to read from Word documents and browsers, the PDF Reader, and DAISY reader. Read&Write also has a variety of high quality voices available for download to use with the product. Among these high-quality voices are speech engines for different English dialects and several European languages.

Read&Write is available in most campus computer labs, in the Assistive Technology Lab, and on computers in Testing Services. The software is also available for students that are not registered with disability services. It is especially good for students who speak English as a 2nd language. Visit the above link to install the application.
