It is not often that a University is granted the opportunity to tap the talent and experience of one of the great business minds of our time. Today, however, I am privileged to announce the appointment of Steve Percy, former Chairman and CEO of BP America, to the role of Interim Dean of the Monte Ahuja College of Business.
An alumnus of the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Mr. Percy has already demonstrated a staunch commitment to Cleveland State's mission, serving as Chairman of the CSU Foundation Board, the head of its Investment Committee and Chair of the National Advisory Council of Cleveland-Marshall. Today, we are honored that he will be actively involved in the daily operations and long-term direction of the Ahuja College of Business.
Prior to joining what was then Standard Oil, Mr. Percy served in the U.S. Army and worked for Babcock & Wilcox. Among many significant roles, Mr. Percy served as a member of President Clinton's Council on Sustainable Development as Co-Chair of the Climate Change Task Force.
Since his retirement from BP in 1999, he has served as the head of Phillips Petroleum's Refining, Marketing and Transportation Company. Mr. Percy served as a visiting professor of Corporate Strategy and International Business at the University of Michigan and worked as a consultant in the fields of environment, energy and materials.
A Cleveland native, Mr. Percy holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Masters in Business Administration from The University of Michigan.
Mr. Percy is a legendary businessman, who will help advance the many important initiatives underway at the Ahuja College of Business. This is an extraordinary opportunity for CSU, and it will help set higher standards for engaged learning.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Percy to his new role at Cleveland State.
