Office of the President

Dear Students:

Where did the summer go? Here’s hoping yours was most enjoyable.

As we begin another exciting academic year at Cleveland State University, I welcome all of you back to campus, especially the members of our incoming freshman class — the largest in CSU history!

Be sure to check out the full slate of fun activities planned for CSU’s Week of Welcome, which runs through Saturday, September 2. I hope to see many of you at the annual President’s Picnic, too. We’ll be on the Student Center Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, September 7. Come one, come all and come hungry!

Also: Our popular series of President’s Lunches will continue, with two additional lunches planned for the upcoming semester. The next one will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 20. Twenty students and I will share a meal and conversation about the issues that matter most to them. Invitees will be determined via lottery. For a chance to win an invitation, submit this auto-populated form. Deadline to enter the lunch lottery is 5 p.m. Friday, September 8.

This is a great time to be at CSU as the city of Cleveland continues to develop and we develop new pathways for students to use the city as a learning laboratory. Explore these options with our Office of Career Services, University Engagement and advisors.

We are excited to launch our new School of Film, Digital Media and Broadcasting, where students will have the opportunity to work with and learn from professionals in all of these disciplines. The school will be housed in the Idea Center, a state-of-the-art media facility in the heart of Playhouse Square, the second-largest performing arts district in the U.S. and home to all of our art programs.

In January, the new College of Engineering addition will open, providing students with an incredibly handsome and technically advanced learning center. It will be a great learning space for students from multiple disciplines.

Engage! This is truly the key to realizing the greatest yield from your education. There are hundreds of pathways to connect with opportunities to participate in student life at CSU.

Your success is our success. We are committed to doing all we can to help you realize your aspirations. You are the heart and soul of Cleveland State University.

Look around you. It’s a great time to be a Viking!

Sincerely,

Ronald M. Berkman
