Dear Students:

As the semester draws to a close, I'd like to wish the best of luck to all of you on your final exams. Hopefully, you're hitting the books hard. Nonetheless, please allow me to interrupt your studies for just a moment to address a few matters that I trust will be of interest to you.

First, congratulations to the Class of 2016! Student success is Cleveland State University's utmost priority, and our graduates are the ultimate student success stories. I look forward to celebrating your achievements at Spring Commencement on Saturday, May 14, at the Wolstein Center. As president of CSU, nothing makes me prouder than shaking your hands as you receive the diplomas for which you've worked so very hard. Our entire campus community salutes you!

Speaking of Commencement, be sure to use the hashtag “#CLEstate16” to participate in the graduation-related fun on social media – and please visit our Official Selfie Station (during Commencement or at the CSU Alumni Association Graduation Party ) to take your #CLEstate16 selfie.

For those CSU students who are still working toward their degrees, I encourage you to consider enrolling in summer classes. You'll be pleased to know that we've added more class offerings, more convenient time slots and more online courses for our upcoming summer sessions. Don't delay, however -- summer classes fill up quickly.

Lastly, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the 128 students who entered the lottery for an invitation to the inaugural President's Lunch. A random drawing was held to choose the winners. Over lunch last month, 25 students and I discussed everything from student employment opportunities on campus to budget support for student organizations to CSU's social media presence, among other subjects. One student even broached the possibility of a “nap room” to provide a safe haven for the sleep-deprived – an intriguing proposition, to say the least!

I've passed along these issues to members of my senior staff, who have been tasked with following up on the suggestions and concerns of my lunch guests. Going forward, I plan to host the President's Lunch twice per semester, in hopes of providing additional opportunities for more of you to be heard, to ask questions and to share with me the issues that matter most to you. I truly value your insights and opinions.

Once again, good luck on finals – and whether you'll be on campus or elsewhere in the coming months, best wishes for a great summer!
