Jim Taylor is a trombone soloist, chamber music performer, orchestral musician and instructor in brass instruments in Northeast Ohio. Mr. Taylor has performed as Principal Trombonist with the Kansas City, Erie, Cleveland Ballet, Cleveland Opera and Cleveland Chamber Symphony orchestras. He teaches applied low brass for the Cleveland State Department of Music.
Taylor has performed many recitals of contemporary music for trombone. He recently premiered Greg D’Alessio’s “Ritual Motion” for trombone and chamber ensemble with the Cleveland Chamber Symphony. Michael Leese’s “Solus for Trombone” was first presented in recital in 1994 by Taylor who subsequently recorded the work.
Jim enjoys running and practicing yoga in his leisure time, both for enjoyment and as an aid to trombone playing. As an instructor in low brass instruments, Jim believes in a balanced approach for the soloist, for the chamber player, and for the orchestral trombonist who, after all, are aspects of the same student.
