As Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Cleveland State University, Dr. Lily E. Hirsch teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music history and music appreciation. Her research focuses on music in Nazi Germany as well as problems of reception and nationalism in music. She attended the Conservatory of Music at the University of Pacific in Stockton, California, where she earned a Bachelor of Music magna cum laude with a major in music history in 2001. At Duke University, she received her Ph.D. in musicology in December 2006. She has published the article “Felix Mendelssohn’s Psalm 100 Reconsidered” in Philomusica and received Doctoral Fellowships from the German Historical Institute and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst. She has also presented at the national conferences of both the American Musicological Society and the Society for Ethnomusicology. Before coming to Cleveland, Dr. Hirsch taught at Montgomery College in Conroe, Texas.
