Cleveland State University Alumnus Joins “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band

WASHINGTON - Cleveland State University graduate Michael Warnick joined “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band in August 2005 as a trumpeter/cornetist.

As a Marine Band musician, Staff Sergeant Warnick performs with the Marine Band, Marine Chamber Orchestra, and Marine Chamber Ensembles at the White House, in the Washington , D.C. , metropolitan area, and across the country during the band’s annual concert tour.

Staff Sgt. Warnick began his musical instruction on the trumpet at age 10. Upon graduating in 1996 from North Olmsted High School in North Olmsted , Ohio , he attended Cleveland State University (CSU) in Ohio where he earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance in 2001 and 2003. Staff Sgt. Warnick studied with Geoffrey Hardcastle and Charles Couch of CSU, Michael Sachs and Jack Sutte of the Cleveland Orchestra, David Duro of the Burning River Brass in Cleveland , and Charles Bergin of the Chautauqua Institution in Lake Chautauqua , N.Y.

Prior to joining “The President’s Own,” Staff Sgt. Warnick performed with the Northern Ohio Brass Quintet in Cleveland, the Blossom Festival Band in Cuyahoga Falls , Ohio , and the New World Symphony in Miami . He also presented a music masters course in Kazusa , Japan , with the Center City Brass Quintet based in Cleveland and performed at the Chautauqua Institution as a substitute.

Staff Sgt. Warnick currently resides in Alexandria , Va.

The Marine Band is America ’s oldest professional musical organization. Founded in 1798, the band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Given the title “The President’s Own” by Thomas Jefferson, the Marine Band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States.
