In March 2003, Cleveland State University instituted the K'inal Winik Cultural Center to provide a site for archival storage of books, research materials, and artifacts related to Mayan culture. The Center is directed by Phil Wanyerka, Ph.D., Instructor in Anthropology. Dr. Wanyerka directs the K'inal Winik Festival programs and the associated Maya Hieroglyph Weekend workshops that highlight the creativity and scholarly contributions of ancient and contemporary Mayans.

The Center expands the original Festival programs by providing a range of scholarship, public outreach, international partnerships, study abroad and faculty exchange programs, K-12 teacher training, and curricular materials production.

Staff, funding, and space provided by the University now enable the Center to foster more rapid expansion into materials production and professional development for teachers, increase its international collaborative projects, and provide year-round programming for education and exchange.
