General Info
Every student, faculty and staff member at CSU is assigned an email address.
This email is accessible
anywhere through web and/or various software. CSU uses this email address to
send you important announcements such as emergency closings and event announcements.
Students - you are responsible for ensuring that you get your CSU
email. Registrars, Admissions, and other departments use your CSU email address to send you information. Many professors will only send email to CSU email addresses. Professors
are able to download class rosters that include email addresses, providing them
with a much easier method for contacting students.
Faculty & Staff - Your email account is created when you join CSU. This remains in effect as long as you are associated
with the University.

Address Format
If you do not know your email address you can find it in CampusNet or contact the Call Center at 216-687-5050.
The basic CSU email address format is:
firstinitial.lastname@csuohio.edu
ex.: Jimmie Hendrix's email address
would probably be:
j.hendrix@csuohio.edu
When would it NOT be this? If someone else with the same first initial and last
name already has a CSU email address, yours may be different. (Email addresses are NOT reused when people leave the university.)
Email Password = CampusPass = CampusNet
If you do not know your CampusPass password, you can contact the Call Center at 216-687-5050.
The password you use to access CampusNet is also your email password!
When you sign into your email, please use your CSU ID number and your CampusPass password.
Changing your password
You can change your CampusPass/CampusNet password in CampusNet.
Email Options
You can access your email through Campus Webmail, Outlook, Eudora and other IMAP-enabled mail clients. CSU supports Campus Webmail, Campus Deskmail, Outlook, Entourage, MacMail, ThunderBird and Eudora.
Faculty and staff may, optionally, decide to use Campus Deskmail in their office. Deskmail works with Campus Webmail, providing the same access to email and calendar, but with a different look-and-feel.

2. Faculty & Staff
3. Those associated with the University, such as student organizations (please contact the Call Center to request an email address, clearly stating your affiliation with CSU)
Who is eligible for Campus Deskmail?

IMAP vs. POP
Most current email clients support two main protocols when handling email: POP (Post Office Protocol) and IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). IS&T recommends that users select IMAP protocol when configuring their email clients.
POP is commonly used by individuals who mainly use a single workstation to handle their email. This protocol will download all messages to the local machine and if specified, will delete these messages from the email server. Depending on the number and size of the email messages (including attachments) and the speed of the internet connection, this process may take seconds to several minutes.
On the other hand, users utilizing the IMAP protocol can check their messages from multiple locations since it leaves the actual email on the server. On initial check, this protocol downloads only the message header, reducing the amount of data that is transferred over the network. It retrieves the whole message content upon request. This makes it ideal for people accessing their email via low speed connections. In addition, since the messages are left on the email server, it is backed up every night. This technology is newer and much more efficient in handling email. It also allows the user to maintain a folder structure in the user’s account on the server. Messages can easily be moved to a folder by drag and drop. These folders and messages are accessible to the user when they log into any workstation configured with the IMAP protocol or when they log into Campus Webmail.
