Overview

Cleveland Skyline

Cleveland State University is an 85-acre metropolitan campus in the heart of downtown Cleveland. World-class businesses, professional sports, big-city entertainment, Lake Erie, healthcare institutions and world class arts organizations are our neighbors and partners, providing 16,000 plus Cleveland State students with unique access to a Fortune 500 network of internships, cooperative education, mentoring and social and recreational opportunities.

Established in 1964, we are a young, agile, diverse and well-connected University, dedicated to providing our students with an exceptional engaged learning experience – hands-on learning connecting students, ideas and real-world experience.

Cleveland State is the University of choice for talented students who are intellectually curious, serious about their studies, and desiring to advance their lives through higher education. Some 69 % of our students are the first in their family to attend college. The University reaches out to academically talented and highly motivated students through its Honors Program, University Scholars Program and Learning Communities. Our Undergraduate Research Program affords an opportunity most often reserved for graduate students – the experience of engaging with faculty on a range of collaborative research projects.

The University offers more than 200 major fields of study and programs. Cleveland State offers degrees in hundreds of undergraduate and graduate programs and law, and professional development programs. Under the signature themes of health and sustainability, the University is a leader in biomedical research and healthcare education; K-12 education; and professional programs in law, business, city management and engineering.

The coveted Fulbright Scholar Award, an international benchmark of excellence, is held by more than 65 faculty members, rivaling Harvard and Yale. And more than 92 percent of our faculty hold the Ph.D. or highest degree attainable in their field.

With more than $500 million in new construction and building renovations, Cleveland State is developing a 21st century campus for the student of tomorrow. Historic Fenn Tower has been restored to its 1929 Art Deco grandeur as apartment-style student housing; next door a new open-to-the-public Recreation Center offers state-of-the-art health and fitness amenities. The Main Classroom and College of Law are recently renovated. The new Parker Hannifin Administration Center offers fine dining at Elements Bistro on Euclid and Parker Hannifin Hall is home to the College of Graduate Studies. Coming soon is a new Student Center and College of Education and Human Services building.

In August 2009, work began on five new residence halls on Euclid Avenue. The dynamic downtown Campus Master Plan includes a North Campus neighborhood with a baseball field, additional campus housing and retail development.

At Cleveland State we take great pride in our more than 160 student organizations, NCAA Division I Horizon League athletics, and more than 100,000 alumni. At nearly 1,000 companies around the country, a Cleveland State graduate is at the helm as CEO, president or chairman. Cleveland State graduates are also at the forefront of banking, public service, publishing, law and other industries in Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland State University, with extended campuses in Westlake and Solon, is an urban university that plays a transformational role on the social, economic, cultural, and political life of the city, the region, and the state, and most importantly, on the community and lives of the thousands of students it serves.
