COST, CREDIT OPTIONS & HOUSING

For students who qualify, the Imagination Workshop and Conference may be taken for four semester hours of graduate or undergraduate credit. The cost of the workshop and conference without credit is $799.00. This is the same for all students, in-state or out-of-state.

Cost of Participation:

  • Full (non-credit) with manuscript; workshops plus conference classes, readings, and colloquium: $799.00
  • One-day Business of Writing Colloquium only: $199.00
  • 4 hours semester undergrad credit (in-state): $1,420
  • 4 hours semester undergrad credit (out-of-state): $1,877*
  • 4 semester hours grad. credit (in-state): $1,857
  • 4 semester hours grad. credit (out-of-state): $2,489
  • 3 semester hours NEOMFA credit: $1,418

$100.00 Credit Surcharge: Credit-tuition purchases university credits and goes into general funds which do not support conference expenses; hence, the listed credit tuition includes an additional $100.00 workshop fee to help support Imagination.

Credit Options
Imagination is offered for four hours of semester credit both undergraduate (ENG 380) and graduate (ENG 580). Admitted NEOMFA students may take Imagination for three hours of “elective” credit and should apply through the NEOMFA Campus Coordinator at their gateway universities. For information about qualifying, about grant assistance, and/or about course requirements, call 216.687.4522.

For-credit applicants not enrolled at Cleveland State or in NEOMFA will have to fill out a formal student application. Visit www.csuohio.edu/admissions/application.html, to print out the appropriate form or apply online.

* Non-resident undergraduate students with 30 or more hours of transfer credit may be subject to higher tuition.

NEOMFA
Creative Writing at Cleveland State University is now part of the North-East Ohio Master of Fine Arts consortium, a unique, new writing program spanning four universities, Cleveland State, Kent State, Youngstown State, and the University of Akron. With 21 distinguished faculty members and offering concentrations in, fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, playwriting, and literary translation, this is Ohio’s newest, roomiest, and most genre-diverse graduate program in Creative Writing. For information on requirements, faculty, courses, or on how to apply, visit www.ysu.edu/neomfa/.

Financial Aid
From the outset it has been our goal to keep costs low, and the conference and workshops affordable. The conference is already heavily subsidized, but for students with demonstrated financial need, Imagination has two resources available. The Cleveland State University Fund for the Arts provides some assistance to students taking the workshop for credit, and a grant fund makes it possible to provide some help to qualifying non-credit participants.

Housing
The Comfort Inn is located an easy five-minute walk from the conference site and offers attendees a special rate of $75.00 a night with a substantially reduced rate for parking. Call 216.861.0001 before June 30 to reserve a room. Say that you will be participating in the Imagination Writers’ Workshop and Conference. After June 30, we cannot guarantee availability. A number of other downtown hotels and a Bed and Breakfast are located within a reasonable distance. For further information call us at 216.687.2532.
