New Summer Scholars Program


What is The New Summer Scholars Program?
The New Summer Scholars Program is geared toward enhancing the preparation for college and academic success of rising juniors, rising seniors and graduating seniors in selected area school districts. This year the six week summer program will commence on June  22nd and end on July 31st. The program’s operational hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday.

Admission for graduating high school seniors is limited to students who have matriculated to the university prior to the commencement of the summer program. Graduating seniors and rising juniors who have not earned college credit for ENG 101 will take ENG 101 and a skill appropriate math class. Students who successfully complete the English course will receive credit for ENG 101 via testing out of the class.  Graduating seniors who are successfully complete the program will be offered admission to the University Scholars Program and will be enrolled in a special section of ASC 101, Introduction to College Life course.

Students who have not previously participated in the program and/or who are not eligible to take ENG 101 will take a skill appropriate math class and an art and humanities or social science course.

Cleveland State University faculty respected for their teaching excellence will lead the program. The main purpose of the program is to enhance pre-existing skills and to assist in easing the transition from high school level course work to college level course work. Students will be exposed to the realities of college life and be introduced to various college survival skills and techniques. Students who participate in the program will be better prepared for the academic years ahead.

The program is free for admitted students. The program will supply all textbooks and a calculator.  Participants successfully completing the program with perfect attendance will be allowed to keep the calculator. Participants are responsible for transportation to and from the University each day.

Selection Process
All students must complete the application packet and submit high school transcripts to be considered for the program.
