In daily two and a half hour classes, students will engage with contemporary research problems in mathematics. Experiences will include a combination of lectures, labs, individual work, small and whole group activities, and guest speakers.
Imagination for High School Writers
This course will provide outstanding opportunities for students interested in writing. Students taking this class will work with dynamic and experienced writers and teachers. Students select one course: Flying Circus of Physics or Exploring the World of Print and Environmentally Friendly Art.
Flying Circus of Physics
This course will engage students in active learning around the topics of Mechanics and Oscillations. In daily two and a half hour sessions, students will explore the basic laws of kinematics, how to describe motion in one and two dimensions, and the fundamental conservation laws of physics. Hands-on experiences in the lab as well as use of the computer will provide students with relevant in-depth understanding of the applications of physics to real-world problem solving situations.
Exploring the World of Print and Environmentally Friendly Art
This course will allow students to create their own works of art while learning about the historical uses of printmaking and the methods artists use to create artistic, yet environmentally friendly artwork. As this is a visual arts class, students will apply the elements of art and the principles of design in order to create their own works. The majority of this class will be hands on experience where the students work like artists, from developing initial sketches to creating a final piece of artwork. Each student will produce a culminating project that will be displayed at the final reception.

Students choosing to participate in this couse will not be able to participate in any of the other course options.
Understanding, Tolerating, Participating in, Getting Frustrated by, and Maybe Even Succeeding in Politics
This course will allow students enrolled in this week-long course to experience the drama, emotion, excitement, and intellectual stimulation of political life. How? In part, by developing their awareness of all the ways in which their daily lives are, in fact, political already. Human beings are, by nature, political. But most people lack awareness of this. Students who participate in this course will have the opportunity to participate in simulations in order to experience the real nature of political science and its many interesting levels– local, national, international, and personal.
Common Course Experience for All Students
Making Connections
This two week common course will be based on the Autonomous Learner Model’s personal and career development sections. Students from all courses will be divided into small groups with a CSU Honors Program “counselor” as well as a Gifted Specialist. This mid-day program will include lunch, personal growth activities, and use of Cleveland State University’s (CSU) recreational facilities. Emphasis will be placed on building relationships with like-minded peers as well as stress-reducing recreation.
