Rearch Experience for Undergraduates (REU):
Consider spending your summer participating in an REU. The National Science Foundation funds various universities throughout the country. A brief explanation of what REU's are can be found on the website listed below. The REU's will not be a good fit for humanities majors, but science, engineering, math and social science majors may find something of interest. REU's are restricted to US citizens or permanent residents. Even if you are not in the market for this sort of position this year, take a look at the opportunities and consider applying for one for summer of 2008. Please check the NSF website periodically as not all the summer opportunities are listed yet. REU's are highly competitive and participants generally are paid a stipend.
The searchable database of REU sites can be found at

The New Jersey Center for Engineered Particulates (NJCEP):
The New Jersey Center for Engineered Particulates (NJCEP) will host its NSF-funded Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Summer of 2008. During the 10-week program, 10 undergraduate students, selected on a competitive basis from various universities throughout the USA, will live on campus while working on challenging research alongside NJIT faculty and graduate students. The research projects will involve unique topics dealing with synthesis, characterization, and applications of nano-particles as engineered composites, focusing on developing fundamental understanding of particle interactions and their influence on final product, which may be existing consumer products (e.g. sun-screens) as well as novel materials (e.g., new cancer drugs or advanced-energetic materials). Students will benefit from a strong research group that includes established faculty researchers and their graduate students, working on collaborative activities in nanotechnology.
More details and an online application may be found at the project website,

Early Law School:
Students who apply to the Honors Program are also eligible to apply concurrently to the Cleveland State University's Cleveland-Marshall College of Law through the Early Law School Admission Program. Early admission guarantees students the right to matriculate in the College of Law, provided that they complete the Honors Program in good standing and receive an Honors Bachelor's degree from Cleveland State University. Students also must submit Law School Aptitude Test (LSAT) scores before matriculation in the law school, but no minimum score is required and test results will not affect a student's matriculation. Students admitted through the Early Law School Admission Program are not under any obligation to attend the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and can apply to and attend other law schools even if accepted under the Early Law School Admission Program. For a full statement of the conditions on Early Admission and other program requirements please visit the Early Law School Admission link.
Students admitted through the Early Law School Admission Program will have the option to participate in a variety of law school programs while still an undergraduate, including meeting professors, attending lectures and enrolling in law school classes as part of the Honors Program curriculum.
Students already enrolled in the Honors Program can apply to the Early Law School Admission Program during their Freshman, Sophomore or Junior years.
