National Fellowships and Scholarships

Some programs require nomination by the student's university. For these programs, all application materials must be submitted first to CSU's Honors Program Director, Dr. Meiksins, in order to be sent to the respective scholarship program. CSU's deadlines will be noted below.

For Undergraduate Students

Beinecke Scholarship

For college juniors only. Supports graduate education for academically talented students.

Approximate amount of award: $4,000 prior to graduate school and then $30,000 per year.

 

Boren Scholarships

Provides funding for international critical language study. Available for summer, semester, or full year length programs. Special opportunities exist for STEM students.

German Academic Foreign Exchange Fellowships

Goldwater Scholarship

Two-year award for science or math majors.
Sophomores and juniors may apply.

Approximate amount of award: $7,500 annually.

 

Pearson Prize for Higher Education

Provides support for students who have shown a commitment to community service and have completed at least one year of their undergraduate education.

Approximate amount of award: $500-$10,000

 

The Thomas Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship

For college juniors only. Supports final year of undergraduate education and for students who show academic talent and leadership skill with a desire to work in foreign service.

Approximate amount of award: $40,000 for final year of undergraduate study and first year of graduate study.

 

Truman Scholarship

For juniors only. Provides funding for the senior year and two years of graduate school for students interested in careers in public service.

Approximate amount of award: $30,000 per year.

 

Morris Udall Scholarship

One-year award for students who study the environment and related fields, or one-year award for Native American students in fields related to health care or tribal policy.

Sophomores and juniors may apply.

Boren Graduate Fellowships

Provides up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency.

CIC Application Fee Waiver

Fulbright Grants

Full support for an academic year of graduate-level study or research at a foreign university, or to teach English in a foreign country.

Approximate amount of award: At a minimum, Fulbright grants provide funds for international transportation, a living stipend, a small book/research allowance, and medical insurance. Some countries will also provide tuition assistance, a small dependent's allowance, a pre-departure or in-country orientation, or other grant enhancements.

Applications must be submitted through the Center for International Services and Programs.

Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Support for full cost of a graduate study program at Cambridge.

This scholarship award includes University fees, a maintenance allowance for the student, one airfare at both the beginning and end of the course, and a discretionary contribution towards the cost of supporting dependants at Cambridge.

 

Intercollegiate Studies Institute Fellowships for Graduate Studies

  • The ISI Richard M. Weaver Fellowship pays tuition at the school attended by the recipient, a stipend of $5,000, and awards $1,000 in ISI Books.
  • The ISI Western Civilization Fellowship awards each recipient $20,000 for graduate work related to Western Civilization studies.
  • The ISI Salvatori Fellowship provides $10,000 to each awardee for graduate work related to the American Founding.
  • The ISI Bache Renshaw Fellowship awards each recipient $12,000 toward doctoral study in education that will influence the discipline with the ideas, values, and institutions that are fundamental to America's Western tradition.

 

Jacob K. Javits Fellowship

Fellowship for students to undertake study at the doctoral and Master of Fine Arts level in selected fields of arts, humanities, and social sciences. Selected on the basis of demonstrated achievement and financial need.

Approximate award amount: Maximum stipend of $30,000, with maximum institutional payment of $13,755.

 

James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation

Offers funding for graduate or final years of undergraduate study for those wishing to teach American History or American Government at the high school level.

 

Marshall Scholarship

One or two years of study at a British university in any field.

Approximate award amount: University fees, cost of living expenses, annual book grant, thesis grant, research and daily travel grants, fares to and from the United States and, where applicable, a contribution towards the support of a dependent spouse.
