Q.  What do I need to do as a Scholar?
A. If you are an incoming freshman, you are urged to take one of the special sections of ACS 101, Introduction to University Life, that are reserved for Scholars students. In your first 60 credit hours of university coursework, you need to take two honors-designated courses as part of your General Education requirements. After 60 credit hours, you need to satisfy Upper Division requirements that depend on your major.

Q.  When can I apply to the Scholars Program?
A. Normally, students enter the Scholars Program as incoming freshmen. However, application to the Scholars Program can be made at any time until a student has earned so many credit hours (typically 60 or more) that graduation within two years is likely and the student would not be able to satisfy the Upper Division requirements for their major before graduation.

Q.  Why is the minimum GPA requirement for transfer students higher than the minimum needed to stay in the program?
A. The higher GPA requirement for transfer students (3.35 out of 4.0) is to compensate for the fact that transfer students will likely take less honors-designated courses than entering freshman would take.

Q.  What are the requirements for entry into the Scholars Program?
A.  If you are an entering freshman, the requirement is that you be in the top 10% of your high school class. This can be established by class ranking or by some minimum score on a standardized exam, like the ACT or SAT.

If you are a current or transfer student, you must have at least a cumulative 3.35 GPA in your previous college coursework.

Q.  If I am in the Scholars Program, will I be able to get into the Honors Program later?
A. If you are a Scholar with the appropriate qualifications, you are urged to consider applying for the Honors Program in the Spring semester of your sophomore year, for entry at the beginning of your junior year. However, note that the requirements for the Honors Program are somewhat stricter than the requirements for the Scholars Program. Also, understand that being in the Scholars Program is no guarantee of entry into the Honors Program in your junior year.
