Dear Prospective Students:
Cleveland State University inaugurated its Honors Program in the fall of 2004 with a class of 40 highly motivated, academically talented first-year students. The program is now home to 200 students, not quite 2% of the undergraduate enrollment.
The Honors Program is demanding and not all students who begin this challenging program will be successful in completing it. While more is expected of students in the Honors Program, honors students also have a variety of privileges unavailable or less available to other students.
All students admitted to the program receive scholarships covering their tuition, academic fees and books. Honors students accept the challenge of participating in intensive and specialized versions of general education classes, and are granted special consideration in several areas, including preference in registration and extended University library borrowing privileges.
Honors students will enroll in at least four honors core courses during their freshman and sophomore years at CSU. These courses offer greater breadth or depth than standard University general education classes. Enrollment is limited to honors students and advanced undergraduates and class sizes are small.
Transfer students and current CSU students entering their junior year may apply to the program. Those who are admitted and meet retention requirements will receive scholarship support and be able to participate in the honors program until graduation. Preferred upper-division applicants will be on track to graduate in two years (for those whose major is in a four-year program).
