Laura Krawczk (Lower Division)
College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
(Majors - Honors English and Psychology)
Class of 2012 - Freshman
l.krawczyk@csuohio.edu
I attended Lakewood, Ashland, and North Olmsted High Schools before graduating in 2008 with an Honors Diploma, Presidential Award of Academic Excellence, and Ohio Award of Merit. My entire senior year, I took classes at Cleveland State full-time through the Post-Secondary Program.
I am currently Staff Writer and Copy Editor for the Cleveland State Cauldron, and an aspiring double major, Honors English and Psychology.
Playing the Harp has been a great passion of mine, playing for eight years in the Jocelyn Chang Harp Ensemble, Northeast and Central East Regional Orchestras, All-State Orchestra, Beck Center Music Conservatory, and at venues for charity such as Severance Hall, the Cuyahoga County Veterans' Hospital, Holy Name Hospice, Normandy Manor, and the Judson Retirement Community.
I've been a member of the Junior Classical League, and volunteered at Ashland Domestic Violence Shelter, Lakewood Christian Service Center, the Cleveland Food Bank, and for the Cleveland Chamber Symphony.
Through my opportunities at CSU, I've had the chance to interview the people who create the foundation of the university, such as the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Rosemary Sutton, and President Schwartz. I understand the vision for CSU, told to me by the individuals' whose brainchild it was. Additionally though, I see room for improvement, as I'm sure many of you also do, and would be honored to be an integral part of a council that is able to implement that change. I'm an Honors Program student who's active on campus, in touch with the needs you have, and would love to be the voice for your grievances and recommendations. I believe I would represent you well.
Marta Makuszewski (Lower Division)
College of Science
(Biology and Pre-Medicine)
Class of 2012 - Freshman
m.makuszewski70@csuohio.edu
My name is Marta Makuszewski. My major is biology and pre-medicine. My ultimate goal is to become a surgeon.
In high school, I was a member of Student Council for four years and National Honor Society for two years. Currently, I was elected secretary of the honors program organization, the Fun Raisers. So, I have experience representing the student body.
I want to be on the Honors Council so that I can be actively involved in making the honors program even better than what it is now. Also, I believe being on the council will help me gain valuable experience for the future. As a doctor, I’m sure that I will have to be on some sort of board or council.
There are a few ideas that I have for the future of the honors program. There should be more honors courses. For those of us who are not fond of English or who are not physics and calculus geniuses, there are only three or four classes to choose from. I don’t think that this is really fair. We all need an African American course to graduate. So, why not make an African American course an honors course? I also have a proposition for a new universal honors experience. I know that there’s a sports appreciation, but I would like to see dance appreciation, where each week or every so often we learn new dances. Another idea I have for a new universal honors experience course is theatre art appreciation, where every week we could go see a play or concert, like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Dan Ottinger (Lower Division)
Nance College of Business
(Business Administration)
Class of 2012 - Freshman
d.ottinger/csuohio.edu
I, Dan Ottinger, am running for Honors Council Representative of the Lower Division. It is my first semester here at CSU and I am undecided in my major, but I am leaning towards language or philosophy. I enjoy being around people and talking about current events or anything pertinent to life. I love being involved and helping others, it’s very fulfilling. My most prevalent attribute is my sense of humor, and I always keep an active and open mind. I highly value education and reading is a hobby of mine. I like learning about other world cultures and love to travel. I have been to Spain and I hope to study abroad in London, Ireland, and South Africa.
I have held many leadership positions, including: Vice president of Student Council and Class Treasurer. I have many hours of volunteer service recorded among other extracurricular activities. I am also a candidate for the Senator of Fenn Tower, Presidential Search Committee, and the Special Initiatives Committee. I am a committee member of Viking Expeditions, and an active participant in Leadership Academy.
I look forward to meeting new people on the Honors Council and helping to represent honors students of the lower division. I hope to be the student representative of the Honors Council because I want all opportunities to be open to us, and I want everything to be done that can help us advance as honors students.

Chrissy Jamison (Upper Division)
College of Science
(Biology)
Class of 2009 - Senior
c.m.jamison@csuohio.edu
Hi, my name is Chrissy Jamison and I’m a senior biology major. I would love to be the upper division student representative to the honors council for the year 2008-2009. From my enrollment in the honors program and at CSU, I have had so many awesome chances to get involved and make the most of my college experience. As a member of the honors council, I hope to not only spread the word about the chances afforded to us now as honors students, but make more interesting opportunities available.
I believe that students at Cleveland State can draw from a wealth of resources, and as a member of the high achieving and very diverse group, the CSU honors program, I am determined to promote involvement and engagement within not only the CSU community, but within the mature social setting of Cleveland.
As the President of Golden Key International Honor Society, the VP of Viking Expeditions, as a Resident Assistant on campus, a member of the Judicial board and the ambassador’s program, as well as my involvement with the center for leadership and service, I feel well qualified as a leader to speak for college students and especially Honors members.
If chosen as the upper division student representative to the honors council, I promise to represent the interests of my peers as well as do my best to utilize the resources provided to us. I will strive to make the honors program the best it can be, and be the student voice among faculty.
I wish all the honors students the best, and I am looking forward to another challenging year!
Please cast your ballot for your favorite candidate -- Voting will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 and Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in the Honors Program Office, MC 219. Voting will be held all day.
