Scholarships for Continuing Students

The scholarships listed below are available to undergraduate students currently attending CSU. To be considered for these scholarships, interested students should submit a completed 2016-2017 Scholarship Application for Continuing Students and must meet all of the following general criteria:

  • enrolled in a degree granting program,
  • pursing a first bachelor's degree and
  • be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen as defined by the U.S. Department of Education.

In some cases, certain scholarships may require a separate application and/or additional information. Students should also consult their academic college and individual department websites for additional scholarship offerings and their specific application instructions. The financial aid office, as well as, the academic colleges and departments match applicants with scholarships that meet the eligibility requirements of the university and the specific scholarship. Annual and endowed scholarships are provided to CSU through the generosity of individuals and corporate donors. To be considered for need based scholarships a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be on file in the financial aid office. The FAFSA can be completed at www.fafsa.gov. Academic Department Scholarships (scholarships based on academic majors)

Amount:  $500 up to full in-state tuition (amounts are determined by the individual college or department)

Criteria:  Consult the academic college or department website for scholarship availability and eligibility criteria

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity

Amount:  $500 to $2000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for an undergraduate sophomore, junior or senior student with demonstrated financial need. Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and attend CSU at least part-time (6 credit hours per semester).

The Marjorie Arnold Devers Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $2000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for a first generation (parent and grandparents have never attended college) undergraduate students from Ohio with demonstrated financial need. Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend CSU at least part time (6 credit hours per semester).

Number of Awards:  1 to 2, based on available funding

Renewable:  No


 

Athletic Scholarships (Division I)

Amount:  $500 up to full in-state tuition (Amounts are determined by the Athletic Department and may possibly include books, room/board allowance and out of state tuition)

Criteria:  Students interested in athletics should contact the Athletic Department at 216.687.5119 or visit the Athletic Department web site regarding scholarships and NCAA aid eligibility.

Number of Awards:  Based on NCAA regulations and requirements.

Renewable:  Athletic student contracts are issued one academic year at a time.


 

Automatic Vendors, Inc. Endowed Scholarship Fund

Amount:  $500 to $1,000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship awarded to an undergraduate student residing in Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga, Portage, Summit, Medina or Lorain county, must be enrolled in at least six credit hours with a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA.

Choose Ohio First

Description:  A state-funded program aimed at graduating more students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM)

Amount:  $500 to $5200

Criteria:  Consult the Choose Ohio First website for scholarship availability and eligibility criteria.  For students in biology, chemistry, engineering, math, medicine, health sciences, nursing, physics, psychology, technology, teaching a STEMM discipline and related fields

Number of Awards:  determined by college or department

Renewable:  Yes.  Can be awarded in addition to other scholarship support (Honors, Freshman Scholars, etc.)


 

Moses Cleaveland Scholarships

Amount:  $500 to $4000, based on available funding. Tuition assistance is provided by the generous donations of individuals and corporations in the Cleveland community.

Criteria:  To provide scholarship assistance for current CSU students with great academic potential and promise for completion of a bachelor’s degree.

Number of Awards:  Varies, based on available funding.

CSU Alumni Association Walter B. Waetjen Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $1,000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship awarded for excellence in scholastic achievement to a junior student with a minimum 3.7 cumulative GPA. Student must be enrolled full time and have earned at least half of his or her credits at CSU.

CSU Women's Association Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $1,000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship awarded to an outstanding junior woman for use in her senior year. Student must be enrolled full time, started her academic career at CSU and have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. This award rotates throughout the undergraduate colleges.

CSU Alumni Association Lee J. Mull and Donald P. Mull Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $1,500 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Awarded for excellence in scholastic achievement. Recipient must be full-time student entering his or her senior year with a 3.7 cumulative GPA; law students need a cumulative 3.0 GPA. The majority of credit hours must be earned at CSU. This scholarship rotates between the law school, the departments of music and political science.

Golden Square Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $900 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for an undergraduate student with demonstrated financial need and a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Hannon Company Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $200 to $2000 Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need. Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend CSU at least part time (6 credit hours per semester).

Number of Awards:  1, based on available funding

Honors Program

Amount:  $5,000

Criteria:  Beginning with the Fall 2012 class upper-division students admitted to the Honors Program will receive a scholarship worth $5,000. The scholarship is renewable for a maximum of four semesters. To remain eligible for the honors scholarship, students must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. Students who fall below this standard will be placed on Honors probation and will be dismissed from the program if the problem persists. A full explanation of the scholarship rules is available in the Honors Student Handbook. A separate application is required to apply to the Honors Program.

Juniors admitted to the Honors Program who were previously awarded the CSU Freshman Scholars Residence Award are still eligible for that award. Juniors who were previously awarded the $3,000 Freshman Scholars Merit Award will have their scholarship increased to the Honors Program level of $5,000 per academic year.

Huntington National Bank Scholarship

Amount:  $1000

Criteria:  Scholarship for full-time undergraduate students in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need (Federal Pell Grant eligible). Must be an upperclassman (junior or senior) with 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA.  Preference is given to graduates of Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Note: Recipients of the Huntington National Bank Scholarship, upon providing written consent, may be requested to be available for interviews and/or events, allow use of their name/photo within communications, etc. in support of the scholarship program and the overall Cleveland State-Huntington Bank partnership.

Renewable:  Yes, for up to 4 consecutive years provided maintain good academic standing, minimum 2.50 cum GPA and financial need (Federal Pell Grant eligible).


 

Sam & Maria Miller Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $2000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for undergraduate students who have demonstrated academic achievement. Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend CSU at least part time (6 credit hours per semester).

Number of Awards:  1 to 3, varies based on available funding

The Bernie Moreno Companies College Completion Scholarship

Amount:  Two $2500 awards will be made each academic year.

Criteria:   Current CSU students who are graduates of Cuyahoga Community College and transferred with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher upon their admission to CSU. Must be enrolled full-time, junior or senior standing (have at least 60 credits earned), in good academic standing with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at CSU and pursuing their first bachelor’s degree. Applicants must also have successfully completed at least two semesters as a full-time student at CSU at time of application.  Applicants must demonstrate financial need as shown on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

To apply for this scholarship, applicants must submit a typed personal essay addressing the following:

  • the applicant’s focus on attaining an undergraduate degree from CSU,
  • discuss their persistence toward degree attainment despite obstacles they have faced and
  • what receiving The Bernie Moreno Companies College Completion Scholarship means to them

Recipients of the scholarship must enroll and successfully complete a minimum of 15 credits each semester and maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA during the period that the scholarship will cover. If not, the scholarship will be revoked and the recipient will no longer be eligible for the remainder of their undergraduate career at CSU. Recipients must also be on track to graduate in a timely manner.  If resources are needed, recipient shall agree to utilize the Tutoring and Academic Success Center for assistance.

Renewable: Yes, scholarship may be renewed for up to one academic year (fall and spring semesters) provided recipient maintains a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, satisfactorily completes at least 15 credit hours each semester that they have received the scholarship and continues to demonstrate financial need. Students must reapply for the second academic year. Preference will be given to current scholarship recipients during the selection process.

Joseph William Peek and Martha Peek Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $3,000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for undergraduate students who have demonstrated academic achievement. Must be at least part-time.

Number of Awards: Varies, based on available funding

Renewable: No


 

Progressive Scholarship

Amount:  $2000

Criteria:  Scholarships for full-time undergraduates with demonstrated financial need. Must be sophomore standing with a 3.2 or higher cumulative GPA and majoring in one of the following: accounting, CIS, finance, math or economics. Could potentially lead to employment with Progressive upon graduation from CSU.

Radiance Scholarships

Amount:  $2,000 an academic year

Criteria:  Awarded to undergraduate first degree-seeking students who demonstrate financial need based on the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students must be full-time (12 or more credits fall and spring semesters).

Continuing students must successfully complete all attempted coursework the prior academic year (12 or more credits fall and spring semesters) and remain in good academic standing. When possible, recipients will be selected from one of the following groups; Cleveland Metropolitan High School Graduates, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) majors and Federal Pell Grant recipients. Separate application is not required. Recipients will be identified by the Financial Aid Office.

Edward George Samsa Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $2000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship for undergraduate students who have demonstrated financial need. Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and attend CSU at least part time (6 credit hours per semester).

Number of Awards:  1 to 3, varies based on available funding

Ram Shivashankar Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $1,000 - based on available funding

Criteria:  The Ram Shivashankar Endowed Scholarship is a memorial scholarship established by the Shivashankar family to honor the memory of their son, Ram Shivashankar, an alumnus of the former College of Arts and Sciences. The Shivashankar family created the scholarship as a way of recognizing other students who have had to overcome extra ordinary challenges or adversities while pursuing a college degree. Must be a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences with a disability and have financial need.

Sigma Phi Epsilon/LTD Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  Varies based on available funding

Criteria:  Must be a full-time CSU degree seeking student (undergraduate or graduate) in good academic standing with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA in their major and a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA overall. New freshmen and transfer students must have sufficient academic background information on file to satisfy this requirement (i.e. final high school transcript or final college transcript). All students must also meet one of the following: be a member in good standing of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity or be a close relative (son/daughter, grandson/granddaughter or great grandson/granddaughter) of a member of the fraternity. A letter from the Sigma Phi Epsilon Headquarter office confirming the membership of the applicant or applicant’s relative must be included with the continuing student application in order to be considered for this scholarship.

Claire A. Van Ummersen Scholarship

Amount:  $500 to $2,000 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship awarded to a new incoming freshman who graduated in the top 10% of their high school class or a current CSU student with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA. Recipient must attend CSU full time.

Milton A. and Roslyn Z. Wolf Endowed Scholarship

Amount:  $250 to $1,500 - Based on available funding

Criteria:  Scholarship awarded to students with financial need. Students must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA and be registered for at least 6 hours.
