What information about my student do I have access to?

Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, only directory information about a student can be released without the students’ written consent.

What is directory information?

Directory information consists of:

• Student name
• Participation in officially recognized activities and sports
• Height and weight of members of athletic teams
• Dates of attendance
• Degrees and awards earned

What if I’m told that my student has requested that all information be withheld?

Students may choose to restrict their directory information at the time of application or at any other time while the student is attending CSU.  The only way that CSU will be authorized to release ANY information is if the student requests in writing that the restriction be lifted. 

How does FERPA affect parents?

By law, CSU is not able to release any information other than directory information to anyone other than the student.  For more information on FERPA regulations please visit http://www.ed.gov/policy/gen/guid/fpco/ferpa/index.html. 

How will this affect my ability to pay my student’s bill or access my student’s grades?

Your student’s information can be found online through CampusNet.  Parents may access their student’s CampusNet account the same way a student would.

What is CampusNet?

CampusNet is the online system that CSU has created to provide faster, better service for our students. CampusNet allows students to:

• Check grades
• Change their personal information like address and phone listing
• Pay their bill
• Register for classes
• Check their unofficial transcript
• Order an official transcript
• Order a parking permit
• Much, much more!

How can I access my student’s CampusNet account?

Please visit the CSU Homepage, and click on the CampusNet link.  You will need to know your student’s CSU ID number and CampusNet password in order to log on to CampusNet.

How will I know my student’s CampusNet user ID and password?

Parents should ask their students what their CSU ID number and CampusNet password are.  Due to FERPA, CSU is not able to release any information about a student’s CampusNet account to anyone other than the student.

How can I obtain information about the status of my student’s application to CSU?

Parents may call the Office of the University Registrar at 216-687-5411 to obtain information about the application status for their student.  This information is not protected under FERPA.

How can I obtain proof of enrollment for my insurance carrier?

Complete an Order an Enrollment Certification Letter form and submit it to All-in-1. An Enrollment Verification Certificate contains:

• Student name
• Date that enrollment was certified by CSU
• Start and end dates for each term
• Enrollment status (part time, half time, or full time). 

An Enrollment Verification Certificate can be printed for current enrollment or all enrollments.

How often do I need to obtain proof of enrollment?

Frequency of enrollment verification is determined by the organization requesting the verification.
