Step 3: General Education Requirements and Degree Audit

What is General Education?

These are basic courses that will provide you with a well-rounded education for a dynamic and ever-changing job market. All students will have to complete these requirements in addition to college and major requirements.

The Requirements

Here is a quick overview of General Education Requirements for Transfer Students:

  • You will not be required to take Intro to University Life
  • Writing/Composition – 2 Courses – 6 Credits
  • Mathematics/Qualitative Learning – 2 Courses – 6 Credits
  • Natural Science – 2 Courses 1 Lab – 7 Credits
  • Social Sciences – 2 Courses – 6 Credits
  • Arts and Humanities – 2 Courses – 6 Credits
  • Social Diversity – 2 Courses – 6 Credits

Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) or Speaking Across the Curriculum (SPAC)

WAC courses are classes that concentrate heavily on writing and include a required word count for the class. SPAC courses are classes that concentrate heavily on public speaking and will include multiple speaking presentations. You must receive at least a C in these courses for the credits to count towards the general education requirement. If you transfer 0 – 59 credit hours you must complete 3 WAC courses, if you transfer 60 – 89 credit hours you will need to complete 2 WAC courses, and if you transfer 90 credit hours or above you will need to complete just 1 WAC course.

Capstone Experience

A capstone experience will differ depending on the college you are a part of. This will be completed in your senior year and includes an internship experience, co-op, senior design or some other kind of experience related to your field of study. This experience will give you real world practice in your field and improve your ability to gain employment after you graduate.

For specific questions about transferring credit and fulfilling requirements, please ask your college academic advisor.

Degree Audit

Degree Audit is designed to keep track of your academic requirements and what requirements you need to complete in order to graduate. Degree Audit can be accessed through the Student Tab on CampusNet.

A green check mark means that your requirement is completed. A red X means that you still need to fulfill the requirement. You can also view all of the classes offered to fulfill each of the requirements.
Please contact your academic advisor or click Ask Question if you have any questions regarding your requirements.

Below is an example of what you might see in Degree Audit.
