The Cost of Attendance (COA) is important for students to understand when it comes to their education expenses. The COA is an estimate of your educational expenses for a period of enrollment, generally two full-time semesters. The cost figures are a combination of tuition and applicable fees and allowances for related educational expenses such as books, transportation and personal and miscellaneous expenses. The COA also includes an average room and board plan as well as a room and board allowance for those who choose to live off-campus.
Every student will be charged tuition, the UPass fee and other applicable lab and technology fees. Full-time tuition is defined as a minimum 12 credits. Tuition is based on credit hour enrollment, Ohio residency and a student's academic program (undergraduate, graduate and law). Students living in a university residence hall will be assessed room and board charges. All other figures included in the COA are estimated expenses associated with attending the University and vary with each student. The tuition and fees schedule are subject to change without notice by the CSU Board of Trustees.

A new federal regulation limits the number of times a student may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course. Please note that the repeat course policy for financial aid is separate from institutional academic policies regarding repeat courses.
You must achieve satisfactory academic progress toward your degree in order to maintain eligibility for most types of financial aid. To maintain satisfactory academic progress, you must meet the following three components: grade point average, completion rate requirement, and maximum time frame for degree completion. Additionally, you must be eligible to continue in your program of study in order to receive financial aid. You also need to be aware of the impact incomplete grades, withdrawals, the absence of letter grades and the treatment of transfer credits will have on your financial aid status. You can find more information on the satisfactory academic progress website.
If you are receiving federal student aid (Title IV aid) and completely withdraw (all “W” grades) or receive all non-passing grades (F, I, W, X, UD, and UF) from your course(s) during a semester, federal regulations require schools to return any “unearned” Title IV aid for the period.
In order to earn 100% of your federal student aid, you must earn at least one passing grade and/or attend through 60% of the academic period in at least one course (Summer Policy - Click Here). If you failed to earn a passing grade, but were in attendance at an academically-related activity through 60% of the period, an attendance verification form must be completed and signed by the course instructor.
The following are examples of approved academically-related activities; your attendance must have been documented by an official of the university:
In accordance with federal rules, participating in academic counseling or advisement, or logging into an online class without active participation will not be considered an academically-related activity.
The percentage of aid the student has earned is calculated using the student’s withdrawal date to determine the percentage of the period completed. For students withdrawing from all courses prior to the 60% point of the semester, the withdrawal date is the date the student completely withdrew from all courses.
For students withdrawing after the 60% point and those with all non-passing grades, the withdrawal date is the midpoint of the period unless documentation is received supporting attendance through 60% of the period.
Any unearned aid must be returned to the federal student aid programs in the following order:
If it is determined that there is unearned aid, then the school must return the unearned funds. The school is required to return the lesser of 1) The amount of unearned Title IV aid or 2) The total institutional charges multiplied by the percentage of funds that was unearned. CSU will bill you for any account balance created when the University is required to return financial aid.
Effective July 1, 2011, the U.S. Department of Education has revised regulations regarding students enrolled in a semester with multiple sessions. The new regulations prevent students from enrolling in multiple sessions spanning the semester, completing a portion of the semester, and retaining all aid for the period.
The new regulations require students to earn a passing grade in their last scheduled session to earn 100% of their federal student aid. Failure to earn a passing grade in your last scheduled session may result in a return of financial aid. The following examples are the most common outcomes resulting in the return of Title IV funds:
Example 1: Student enrolled in 6W1 and 6W2; Earns a passing grade(s) in 6W1, but withdraws from all courses or fails to earn a passing grade in 6W2.
Example 2: Student enrolled in 6W1 and 12W; Earns a passing grade(s) in 6W1, but withdraws from all courses or fails to earn a passing grade in 12W.
Students are strongly encouraged to contact Campus411 All-in-1 in Main Classroom, Room 116, or call 216-687-5411 or email allin1@csuohio.edu to determine how a drop or withdrawal may impact aid eligibility.
