To be eligible for most federal financial aid programs, you must meet the following requirements:

• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Have a valid Social Security number. If you do not have a Social Security number, you need to visit www.ssa.gov for more information.
• Be admitted to CSU in an eligible degree-seeking major or certificate program. Under certain conditions, non-degree graduate students may be eligible for federal loans for a maximum of 12 consecutive months.
• Demonstrate financial need, except for some loan programs.
• Have a high school diploma, GED, pass a test approved by the U.S. Department of Education, or meet other standards approved by the U.S. Department of Education.
• Make satisfactory academic progress (continuous progress toward a degree).
• Sign a Statement of Educational Purpose and a Certification Statement indicating that you are not in default on a student loan or owe an overpayment on a grant. (Both statements are on the FAFSA.)
• Be registered with the Selective Service, if required. You can register online at www.sss.gov.
