Internships are available to Visiting Fenn GEP Scholars through the Global Education Program (GEP) during the summer after their senior year in high school and prior to the first semester of freshman year in college and again the summer between freshman and sophomore year of college.
These intern experiences will last six weeks the first summer and three months the second summer and will provide an introduction to the different roles of engineers in the work place. Students will be given the opportunity to work with engineers as well as gain experience in basic engineering skills. Exposure to real-life engineering situations will help the Visiting Fenn GEP Scholar to confirm not only her/his choice of major, but also provide insight into different specialties within the major. Fenn Academy GEP Summer Internships are paid, and provide not only great experience, but can be a great way to earn money for college.
Fenn Academy might be able to accommodate three to five Visiting Fenn GEP Scholars each summer. Visiting Fenn GEP Scholars will be required to submit resumes and participate in telephone interviews with employers, assisted by faculty mentors from their school. Each participating school will be responsible for designating faculty mentors who will assist with the communication process between employers, students and Fenn Academy personnel. Interns will be chosen by the employers based on the student resumes and interviews.
Visiting Fenn GEP Scholars will work with Cleveland State’s Center for International Services Programs, who will assist in navigating certain travel, housing and visa requirements. The Fenn Academy Career Coordinator will make every effort to match students with appropriate intern experiences, however placement is not guaranteed.
A reciprocal arrangement will be made for Northeast Ohio Fenn GEP Scholars. These students will fulfill all the requirements of the Fenn Academy Summer Intern Program in order to be eligible.
Fenn Academy GEP Internships will provide Northeast Ohio Fenn GEP Scholars the opportunity to learn first hand, about the globalization of the engineering field, while Visiting Fenn GEP Scholars will provide fresh insights to both the employers and students with whom they work. Fenn Academy Partner Employers will benefit by utilizing GEP Scholars in their international locations and by obtaining an international point of view from Visiting Scholars.
