Responsibilities:              

• Continued to travel and promote major changes in engineering education and actively participate as an international speaker for the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the engineering, scientific, and academic communities; and,
• Worked with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science faculty at Ohio University to establish a totally new curriculum in electrical and computer engineering for the 21st century based on the ABET criteria 2000 (This new curriculum is already being implemented in stages.).

Responsibilities:

• Served as the elected administrative leader of the world’s largest professional/technical society with over 300,000 members, 70,000 volunteers, and 700 full-time staff worldwide;
• Jointly managed and supervised, with others, a $150 million budget;
• Helped to create a more positive financial position within the Institution over the last six years which has led to a surplus of over $10 million in 1997’s budget and a total of approximately $75 million in 1997 reserves;
• Played a significant role in positively redirecting the Institute’s focus toward member needs and services;
• Worked closely with staff and volunteers which, as viewed by the administrative staff, raised staff performance and morale to its highest level in ten years;
• Played a significant role with select key volunteers to restructure IEEE to better serve the membership in the 21st century;
• Developed, through consensus building, “Vision 21,” an innovative program seeking to challenge and mesh the engineering community, academic community, industry, and government into providing programs and services necessary for a technically literate 21st century society;
• Played a role in restructuring the American Association of Engineering Societies so it currently speaks with a representative voice for the engineering community as a whole; and,
• Was responsible for bringing IEEE into a coalition of forty-five scientific societies, organized by President Bush’s Science advisor, Dr. Allan Bromley.  The main goal of this coalition was to secure increases in funding for research and development.

Responsibilities: 

• Spent a significant amount of time working with the faculty, students, and staff to help the College recover from the devastating effects of the 1994 Northridge earthquake;
• Initiated the restructuring of the undergraduate engineering curricula through teamwork and group consensus building;
• Created programs through leadership and consensus building which significantly increased both the number and scope of proposals written and funded; and,
• Initiated successful strategies for individual program accreditation in the areas of civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, where previously there was sole accreditation of the general engineering program.  All programs were accredited by ABET in the first review.

• Worked with the faculty to receive ABET accreditation for a new Electrical Engineering program;
• Worked with the Mechanical Engineering Department and the Civil Engineering Department to establish a college-wide Masters degree in Engineering; and,
• Established a Ph.D. program in electrical engineering and received approval of the program in only one year.

• Revitalized the Ph.D. graduate program, taking it from only a few students and no graduates in the previous six years to 16 full-time Ph.D. students;
• Revitalized the Master’s degree program, increasing the initial low percentage of student nationals to approximately 67 percent.
• Increased research funding from $200,000 per year to over $2 million per year; and,
• Realize a significant increase in faculty journal publications.
