  • Despite Focus on STEM Education, Computer Science Instruction Still Lacking
  • Prof. Stankovic received donation from Synopsis in the amount of $4,532,500.00.
  • Dr. Stankovic was selected as one of the IEEE APEC 2013 Technical Presentation Winners for her paper: "A Novel Control Method for Grid Side Converters under Generalized Unbalanced Operating Conditions", co-authored with her student Yaroslav Rutkovskiy.
  • The 1,000th Student Professional Awareness Conference (S-PAC) was held at CSU.

  • The CSU student branch of the IEEE traveled to Ohio State University on April 28 for the Student Activities Conference. Berney Montavon won 2nd place in the Research Paper Competition for his research paper "Adaptive Filtering for Detecting Myocardial Infarction Using Noninvasive Conducting Polymer Composite Sensors." Jon Cardinale and Luke Louder won 3rd place in the Micromouse Competition.
  • Undergraduate student Berney Montavon won a cash award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) to travel to Denver and present a poster at the International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition the week of November 14, 2011. The title of his poster is "Automatic Detection of Myocardial Infarction Using Carbon Nanotube Arrays."
  • Doctoral student Mehmet Ergezer was invited to give a presentation at Youngstown State University on November 7, 2011. The title of his talk was "ECG Heartbeat Detection and EMG and Motion Artifact Removal Using Adaptive Filtering."
  • Electrical engineering and computer science students won awards in two of the competitions in the IEEE Region 2 Student Actvities Conference. Mikey McLaughlin, Ron Davis, and Berney Montavon won 1st place in Brown Bag Competition. Mikey McLaughlin, Ron Davis, Tantely Andriamasilalo, Hannah Sims and Robert Morabito won 3rd place in Bumper Sticker Competition.
  • ADRC technology, an innovation developed by Dr. Zhiqiang Gao, was just reported on the website of Ohio Polymer, "LineStream Technologies: Advanced Control, Made Simple".
  • Paul Lozovyy and George Thomas were awarded a Student Participation Grant from the 2011 NSF-CMMI Research and Innovation Conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, January 4-7, 2011. They will be presenting their poster "Intelligent Robotics."
  • Rick Rarick was awarded a Student Participation Grant from the 2011 NSF-CMMI Research and Innovation Conference, to be held in Atlanta, Georgia, January 4-7, 2011.
  • Mr. David Kachmarik, CSU alumni, recently received 2010 General Electric Award in the amount of $25,000. The money will be used to support Dr. Ana Stankovic’s graduate student, Xiangpeng Zheng on a project entitled: “Power Electronics for Advanced Lighting Solutions”. In 2003. Dr. Lou Nerone, CSU alumni, received the same Award. The proceeds from this grant sponsored a CSU graduate student, Sergey Vernyuk ,who completed his thesis in the area of Power Electronics under Dr. Ana Stankovic. Dr. Stankovic, a long term collaborator with General Electric-Lighting, has already supported 8 graduate students with General Electric grants.

  • Dr. Simon has been named as an associate editor of the journal Aerospace Science and Technology.
  • Miss Hua Chai has received 2010 Outstanding Thesis award in the CE/SE area. Thesis: Performance Engineering of A Lightweight Fault Tolerance Framework
  • Mr. Yao Zhang has received 2010 Outstanding Thesis award in the EE area. Thesis: Load Frequency Control of Multiple-Area Power Systems
  • Dr. Gao, has been invited to give a short course on Advanced Control for Italian Ph.D. students at The Polytechnic University of Turin (Italian: Politecnico di Torino, POLITO). The name of the course is Control System Design: From Concepts to Practice. The course will be delivered in July.
    The Polytechnic University of Turin is an engineering university based in Turin, northern Italy. Established in 1859, Politecnico di Torino is Italy’s oldest Technical University. It is also regarded as one of the best Universities worldwide in its field. It's ranked 1st in Italy and top 50 in the world.

  • 7/28/09: IEEE Cleveland State University Student Branch of the IEEE Cleveland Section has been selected as the recipient of the 2008 MGA Student Branch Membership Growth Award for Region 2.

  • The EECS department has significantly increased the number of partial tuition grants to new graduate applicants with outstanding academic record this year and will continue to do so in the future.
  • 9/4/08: ADRC Technologies Inc., the company Dr. Gao and industrial-controls expert Jim Dawson of Hudson started in 2006, received $1 million in financing from a Northeast Ohio venture capital firm. (Cleveland.com article)
  • 7/22/08: Dr. Simon received a grant from the National Science Foundation for the project titled “Biogeography-based Optimization of Multiple Related Complex Systems” in the amount of $295,879.
  • 7/17/08: Dr. Yau received a grant from the American Diabetes Association for the project titled “Stabilization of Immobilized Enzymes for Implantable Glucose Monitoring Devices” in the amount of $100,000 for Year One of an anticipated three year award.
  • 6/30/08: Drs. Zhao, Sridhar, Yu, Fu received a grant from the National Science Foundation for the project titled “MRI: Acquisition of Equipment to Establish a Secure and Dependable Computing Infrastructure for Research and Education at CSU” in the amount of $150,000.
  • 1/23/08: Dr. Sridhar received a grant from the National Science Foundation for funding of the project titled "CAREER: Improving the Productivity of the Sensor Network Programmer" in the amount of $450,000. 5/9/08: Dr. Sridhar received from the National Science Foundation a supplemental funding for support of Research Experiences for Undergraduates in the same project in the amount of $12,000.

  • Professor Ye Zhu received funding from University Center for Teaching and Learning for the proposal, "Development of Network Security and Privacy Course Projects", in the current round of instructional improvement awards.
  • Professor Lili Dong received funding from University Center for Teaching and Learning for the proposal "The Development of a Multimedia Handbook for EEC 646/746: Dynamics and Control of Micro-electro-Mechanical Systems".
