BIOGRAPHICAL
SKETCH
Professor
Bahman Ghorashi received his B.S. in chemical engineering from
Wayne State University and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical
engineering from The Ohio State University. He is currently a
full professor at Cleveland State University's Department
of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering. Formerly he has
held positions as Assistant Dean of the College of Engineering
and as Graduate Program Director in the department of chemical
engineering.
He
has served Cleveland State University in various capacities ranging
from college level committee chairmanships to faculty representative
on the University's Board of Trustees. While on the CSU Board
of Trustees, Professor Ghorashi participated in many of the board's
subcommittees and acquired a knowledge of the non-academic aspects
of the University's functions including finance, buildings and
grounds and development activities. On behalf of the Board, he
was lauded by the university president for his services and contributions.
Professor Ghorashi has also participated in several strategic
planning programs where he has assisted in developing position
papers. Dr. Ghorashi was a key participant in the formation of
the Ohio Aerospace Institute, a consortium of
nine Ohio Universities, NASA and industry.
Professor Ghorashi has over seventy publications based on his
studies and research programs. He has co-edited three volumes
of proceedings of an international conference on laser anemometry
which he co-chaired together with a colleague from Case Western
Reserve University and is published by the American Society of
Mechanical Engineers. Within the engineering and scientific communities,
he has been recognized and consequently invited to give lectures
and presentations at many universities nationally and overseas.
He has also made numerous presentations of his works at engineering
and scientific conferences. His studies have taken him to many
parts of the world in four continents, from Australia to Europe
and Asia where he has given invited lectures, presentations on
his research studies and has attended scientific conferences.
His areas of research include different aspects of management
of technology and agile manufacturing, fluid mechanics, mixing
and non-Newtonian fluid flow. Over forty masters, doctoral and
post-doctoral students have worked under professor Ghorashi's
supervision in these areas.
Dr. Ghorashi has also been involved in service to his community
as well as his profession. He recently served as an American Institute
of Chemical Engineers member on a national task force in Washington
to establish a road map for the future of U.S. chemical industry.
Among the many awards that he has received from different institutions,
universities, NASA and the American Society for Engineering Education,
he has been honored with a certificate of commendation from the
Ohio General Assembly in which he is saluted as one of Ohio's
finest citizens. Professor Ghorashi was recently presented with
the 2003 Distinguished Faculty Research Award
by Cleveland State Universitity's president Dr. Michael Schwartz
"In recognition of outstanding research achievements."
Dr. Ghorashi's new book, "How to Become
an Exceptionally Outstanding Young Person" just
became available.
