Chemical and Biomedical Engineering Department: Accelerated Masters Program

Overview - Accelerated Master of Chemical Engineering Program

An Accelerated Program that would enable students to earn Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Chemical Engineering in five (5) years.

When to Apply

Students are eligible to apply for the program after they have completed sixty-five (65) credit hours,
typically at the end of the sophomore year (with at least 30 credit hours at CSU).

Students must apply before they enter the last 30 credit hours required to earn their undergraduate degree
(residency requirement), typically at the end of the junior year.

  • GPA of 3.00 or higher (3.25 preferred)
  • Students must have shown appropriate progress in their degree program
    [see recommendation requirement for application]

Reduction in Total Credit Hours: 10-12 credit-hours

  • Advanced Science Elective: 4 credit-hours
(400/500-level or higher classes in Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Geology, sixth or seventh semester).
In order to count towards both degrees classes must be approved by the Department, and must be taken at the Graduate-level (500-level)
  • Chemical and Biomedical Senior Electives: 6 credit-hours
In order to count towards both degrees, these classes [typically cross-listed as 400/500-level]
must be taken at the Graduate-level (500-level), and must be taken after being admitted to the Program.
  • Honors Thesis/Independent Research 2 credit-hours
[Optional for most students, only required for Scholars and Honors Students]

The Program can be initiated with an Independent Study/Research, and repeated two (2) more semesters
[In-line with the Upper Division Honors Program], and apply up to 3 credits towards a Masters Project or Masters Thesis
These credits can later be used towards the Thesis Option (if the student decides to change options once advanced in his/her studies).
