CHE 594-501 (Fall): Numerical Methods for Engineers (1-0-1)

Pre-requisites:Graduate Standing in Engineering or Permission of Instructor

Course Description: This course is the first of three modules devoted to the Analysis of algorithms and approaches for solving Engineering problems. It addresses specifically numerical methods for algebraic and differential equations. Special attention is paid to train students in the evaluation, selection and implementation of methods. Course assessment and promotion relies heavily on programming and use of the computer for solving engineering problems.
This course uses an Internet web site https://wct-app.csuohio.edu/webct/entryPageIns.dowebct for course delivery and assignments. Internet-based electronic mail and discussion forums are used for the submission of completed assignments and class interaction.

Students:

  • May access the class web site at their convenience, beginning the first day of the term. Regular on-line attendance is essential.
  • Must take quizzes, Mid-term Exams and deliver assignments on-line.
  • Take the Final Exam at one of the (Consortium Universities) Assessment Centers.

CHE 594-501 (Spring): Process Modeling and Simulation (1-0-1).

Prerequisites: Senior/Graduate Standing in Chemical Engineering or permission of instructor.

Course Description:Review of the basic principles of transport of momentum, heat, and mass with applied problems. Numerical methods for solving more complex problems of transport phenomena and kinetics. This course is the first of three modules devoted to the Numerical methods for solving common and complex Engineering problems involving mass and energy transport, fluid flow phenomena, and/or chemical kinetics.
This course is intended as an Elective for Chemical Engineering Seniors and for First-year Graduate students. It gives the students a flavor on modeling, simulation, and analysis of the fundamental Chemical Engineering units, and their integration in typical CPI Processes. Students must be familiar with fundamentals of Numerical Methods in Science and Engineering, and have Elementary Computer Programming (Structured language) knowledge.
