The Center’s Director is Dr. Majid Rashidi, Professor and Chair of the Department of Engineering Technology. Dr. Rashidi has had extensive professional experiences in the area of machine design, fluid-solid interactions, dynamics of rotating machinery, bearing design and the design of innovative wind harnessing systems. Dr. Rashidi’s latest work in design of wind harnessing system has resulted in four pending U.S. patents, one of which is also applied as an International Patent.

Dr. Rashidi’s research and design work have been funded by the State of Ohio and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The State of Ohio has allocated $400,000 from its Capital Fund for fabrication of a rooftop prototype of Dr. Rashidi’s innovative wind tower. Additionally, the administration of CSU (President, Provost, and Dr. William Napeir of CSU) has been able to secure a 1.1 million dollar of Congressionally Directed fund toward building two rooftop prototypes of Dr. Rashidi’s wind tower.

In addition to governmental funds, recently a private donor has pledged a total amount of 1.0 million dollars to CSU as the result of Dr. Rashidi’s work on his innovative wind tower system. This privately donated fund is to be used toward establishment of a sustained research and innovation in the area of renewable energy, including research and design in wind power systems.
