On behalf of the faculty and staff at the Fenn College of Engineering I would like to welcome you to one of the finest engineering colleges in the country.
Basic and applied research are central to the mission of the Fenn College of Engineering. At Fenn, our professors work to advance existing knowledge in their respective disciplines and to explore new and exciting areas.
Engineering faculty, often assisted by skilled undergraduate and graduate students, continue to build a strong reputation for quality research. Working together as a team, these colleagues endeavor to find new external funding in cutting edge areas. Our renowned faculty ensures that our qualified students have the opportunity to join in research in state-of-the-art laboratories.
Funds and grants from major corporate sponsors such as Parker Hannifin, Rockwell Automation, Dominion East Ohio Gas, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation, NASA Glenn Research Center, Keithley Instruments, Department of Energy and the State of Ohio, among others, help us keep pace with rapid technological changes and enable our students to network with leaders in their field. To obtain specific details about new or ongoing research and related facilities at the Fenn College of Engineering, please visit individual department web pages.
Additionally, the Fenn College of Engineering offers many exciting educational opportunities for you. Fenn provides outstanding and affordable, fully-accredited programs in the fields of civil/environmental, mechanical, industrial/manufacturing, electrical, computer, and chemical/biomedical engineering. Highly respected programs in mechanical and electronic engineering technology are also available. The average student-to-faculty ratio in our engineering classes is 17:1.
The Cooperative Education Program allows undergraduate students to attend college while alternating their studies with paid, on-the-job assignments in fields related to their academic or career interests. Co-op helps pay for a student’s education while they are still in college, and they may work at organizations such as NASA or ODOT, or for companies such as Parker Hannifin, Rockwell Automation, Middough, Keithley, Ford, Lincoln Electric, Sherwin Williams, FirstEnergy, Lubrizol, and many more.
Nearly $179 million is being spent on new construction at Cleveland State, including the new Fenn Tower residence hall. You may qualify for several available scholarships or for Cleveland State’s Honors Program. The Honors Program provides scholarships covering tuition, books and fees. The program also provides faculty mentors, leadership development, an enriched curriculum and course registration preference, among other benefits for those students who qualify.
The Fenn College of Engineering also offers outstanding student services. These include free tutoring, academic advising, available faculty and staff mentors, and career planning. We have seventeen engineering student chapter organizations, including the Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honor Society, the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, and the Fenn Student Ambassadors.
We also offer many social and academic activities throughout the year. These include two career fairs, corporate and alumni mixers and various academic competitions. Other events include the annual Winterfest party, Engineers’ Week events, the Steel Ring and Awards Ceremony, and Tech Fest, an opportunity for you to meet and learn from leaders in the engineering community.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact my office at (216) 687-2555, or stop in to see us in Stilwell Hall, room 104. We stand ready to assist you in any way possible to make your education a positive, fun, and enriching experience that leads to your future success.
