Maurice Fraga is originally from San Francisco , California , and has earned both B.A. and M.F.A. degrees in dance from the University of California, Santa Cruz and University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, respectively.
While earning his M.F.A degree in 1995, he was recognized by the department and received the Vannie Sheiry Endowed Scholarship for Outstanding Performer.
In 1997, he moved to New York City and began dancing for many groups, among them Ben Munisteri Dance, David Parker and the Bang Group, the Kevin Wynn Collection, Michael Foley Dance, Creach/Company, the Tiffany Mills Company, and the Mark Morris Dance Group.
In 2003, he moved to Montreal, Canada , and danced for the acclaimed company, O Vertigo, until 2005. In addition to his performance work in the U.S. and Canada , he also freelances with the Dublin, Ireland company, Fluxusdance.
Fraga's work has been presented at many venues including the Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Centre, Movement Research at Judson Church (NYC), L.I.T. at Bill Young's Studio (NYC), Studio 303 (Montreal), Guasch Theatre (Barcelona), L'EDQ (Quebec), the Maryland Dance Council, Joy of Motion Studio, New World School of the Arts (Miami), University of Maryland, College Park, San Francisco Institute of Choreography, The Yard at Martha's Vineyard, James Madison University, Cleveland State University, Ballina Arts Centre (Ireland), Castlebar Arts Centre (Ireland), and at ACDFA (Salt Lake City).
He has taught at many universities, colleges and studios in the US, Canada, France, Ireland, and Spain. He is the artistic director of his own dance company, Ekilibre Dance Company, and also works with Pilar Torras in Barcelona, Spain under the name P.M.danz.
