Featured guest artists include the return of Helanius Wilkins (week one) and Maurice Fraga (week two) with many more guest artists teaching during week three including Teena Custer and Tammy Metz-Starr.

Parking :
-Please give yourself ample time to find parking on your first day.
-Metered parking is available in the basement of the Recreation Center (25 cents/15 minutes with a maximum of 2 hours). Recreation Center parking may be accessed just east of E. 24th Street on Chester Ave. From the Recreation Center parking lot, the dance studio (PE 71) is just one level up and left through three sets of double doors to the PE Building.
-Metered street parking is also available on Chester Ave. (25 cents/half hour with a maximum of 4 hours).
-On your first day you will be given a memo that will enable you to purchase a temporary parking pass.

Lockers:
Lockers will be available for your use in the locker room at the basement level. You must provide your own lock.

 


 

SOMATIC TECHNIQUES: A Body Work Seminar
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 9:45 a.m.

Somatic Techniques: A BodyWork Seminar involves study in the methods of somatic training and its application to the moving body. Potential training methods include Pilates Mat Work, an exercise-based system that aims to develop the body's "center" to create a stable core for efficient and effective movement,  Yoga, establishing clear principals for optimal alignment and balanced energetic action, and Tai Chi Chuan, described as "moving meditation." Appropriate for all ages, no dance experience is required. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a mat or blanket.


CONTEMPORARY MOVEMENT TECHNIQUES
Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

Accompanist's Fee: $30.00

DAN 573 (Graduate)
1 semester hour

Contemporary Movement Techniques incorporates material from a variety of sources, ranging from release-based work connecting with the floor to an eclectic series of standing contemporary sequences. Classes explore various elements including a weighted and grounded approach to movement, harnessing the body's momentum and force, partnering skills and improvisational techniques.
