OVERVIEW
The Controller's Office at Cleveland State University is responsible for eight functional areas: general accounting, grant accounting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, receiving, mail distribution and property control.
General Accounting is responsible for the basic accounting services of the University such as preparing various analyses and financial statements, including the annual financial report; approving purchase requisitions; reconciling cash and other general ledger accounts; and providing assistance to members of the University community.
Grant Accounting provides services for all grants and contracts received by the University, including preparing financial statements and billings as required by the sponsor; approving purchase requisitions; and providing assistance to principal investigators. This area also provides all accounting services for the CSU Foundation, a private non-profit corporation that solicits contributions and manages endowment funds for the University.
The Payroll Office is responsible for processing the payroll for all University employees including students who are employed by the University; assisting employees with payroll problems and questions including all payroll check, tax and deduction processing; preparing and mailing W-2’s and/or 1042S’s; OPERS and STRS reporting; tax adjustments for Staff Development and Student Fee Authorization; and maintaining all international student and staff tax form information.
The Purchasing Services Department is divided among four functional areas: purchasing, accounts payable, receiving, mail distribution and property control.
