I am the first graduate of an exceptionally large family. How can I get enough tickets for all of them to attend?
If you need more than the six (6) tickets you receive with the purchase of your cap and gown, you may request them from the Bookstore. The University tries to accommodate each special request and makes every attempt to provide a sufficient number of tickets. It is best to request your extra tickets early.
Why are tickets required?
It is the policy of the Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Center management that ticket admission is required at all events held in the facility, including Commencement. This policy is
necessary for security purposes. Given the size of the arena, seating is usually not a problem.
Can my parents or friends come up to the stage to take my picture as I receive my diploma?
The University has made arrangements with a professional photographer to capture the exact moment each graduate is handed his or her diploma. Unfortunately, due to the large number of people assigned to work and/or assist the graduates, for security purposes, only people assigned to work and/or assist the graduates are allowed on the arena floor and ceremony stage. No family, friends or children are allowed on the arena floor and ceremony stage.
How will my family and friends know which side of the arena floor I will march down and where I will sit?
There is no exact way to identify which side you will march down. When the procession begins, the two lines split behind the stage and come together again at the rear of the arena floor. You would have to plan that strategy in advance - on the right or left side of the stage.
How long will the ceremony last?
Approximately 2.5 hours from start to finish.
Must I stay for the entire ceremony?
YES. The University has made every attempt to consolidate the length of the ceremony by shortening the speeches and providing a constant flow of graduates as they walk across the stage - all this without sacrificing each graduate's special moment. We feel it is important that each and every graduate be given an opportunity in the spotlight. Therefore, as a courtesy to your fellow graduates and their guests, we ask that you return to your seat and remain there until all the graduates have walked across the stage.
I understand that I am responsible for bringing the complete regalia unit with me and that I should check everything for fit and correctness before graduation day. However, in the event I bought the wrong color tassel or something doesn't fit, will assistance be available on that day?
Yes. There will be several stations available to assist you. The College volunteers usually have a few color-coded tassels or are able to make minor adjustments on the fit of a gown or cap. Also, representatives from the Bookstore will be located in a dressing room in the Tunnel area.
There is only ONE restroom in the tunnel area for hundreds of graduates. Please use the restrooms located on the main concourse level prior to entering the tunnel.
Be courteous! Stay for the entire ceremony!
No cell phones are permitted during the ceremony.
Loud and disruptive behavior by members of the audience will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the ceremony by campus police.
