Graduation with Honors
University Honors Medallion
If you are an undergraduate student and will graduate with a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or higher, having earned a minimum of 60 semester credits in residence at Cleveland State University, you are eligible to graduate with honors and will be awarded an honors medallion that can be worn at Commencement. The honors medallion identifies your scholastic distinction.
- 3.30-3.59 Cum Laude
- 3.60-3.79 Magna Cum Laude
- 3.80-4.00 Summa Cum Laude
The Office of the University Registrar will notify you by mail if you are eligible to graduate with honors and will provide you with instructions for obtaining your honors medallion. In the event that you are unable to secure your honors medallion prior to the day of the ceremony, University representatives will be available at Commencement (Gate C upper level – Graduates' entrance) to distribute medallions.
Please note that grades associated with transfer and transient credits are not included in honors calculations. Given that the Commencement ceremony precedes the submission of Spring Semester 2008 final grades and the official determination of honors, all such notations for the purpose of the ceremony are considered tentative.
Golden Key International Honour Society
If you are a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society, you may purchase honor cords and stoles to wear in the Commencement ceremony. Visit the website at www.goldenkey.org or telephone 800.377.2401 (Option #1 Customer Service).
Following a final audit of your academic record and verification of the successful completion of all degree requirements, the Office of the University Registrar will mail your diploma to the address on file with the University approximately four weeks following Commencement. You are strongly encouraged to verify the accuracy of your name and current mailing address through CampusNet. Please make any necessary address changes online. Your name will be printed on your diploma and in the Commencement program book exactly as it appears in the student database.
A professional photographer is present at each ceremony, taking your picture as you walk across the stage. A proof of the picture is mailed to your home address approximately two weeks after Commencement. You have the option of ordering copies if you wish, and there is no obligation to purchase. If you do not wish to place an order, you may keep the proof at no charge.
If you need to contact the photographer directly, call Chappell Graduation Images at 800.424.3686 or visit www.chappell.com.
