Professional Experience & Community Activities

Dr. Kimberly A. Neuendorf is a professor in the Media Arts and Technology Division as well as director of the Communication Research Center at the School of Communication. In addition to teaching at CSU for 22 years, Dr. Neuendorf has lead efforts in several notable funded projects at CSU. Among them are "The Picture This Filmmakers Program at Cleveland State University" and CRC research projects including "Public and Participant Reactions to a New Arts Festival: Ingenuity 2005," and "CESTP Survey of Environmental Knowledge and Concerns in Northeast Ohio".

In academic research, she also works with CSU Communication colleagues Drs. David Atkin and Leo Jeffres on studies of new technology adoption as well as with colleagues at other institutions on the use of mass media for mood management. Additionally, Dr. Neuendorf has partnered with Dr. Brian Blake of the Consumer & Industrial Research Program at CSU's Psychology Department to study the diffusion and usage patterns of online shoppers in countries around the world.

Her recent published works include the highly acclaimed book, The Content Analysis Guidebook as well as the journal articles and conference papers Tailoring new websites to appeal to those most likely to shop online, Cosmopoliteness in the Internet age, Cross-national differences in website appeal: A framework for assessment, The influence of expanding media menus on audience content selection, Obstacles and openings to presence in the experience of film, and Senses of humor and television program preference.

Dr. Neuendorf is a member of such professional organizations as American Association for Public Opinion Research, Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, Broadcast Education Association, International Communication Association and Society of Cinema & Media Studies.

Education

She received a Ph.D. and masters in Communication and a bachelors in Telecommunication from Michigan State University.

A Michigan native, she enjoys movies, water skiing and snow skiing.
