Expertise Professional Experience & Community Activities Katheryn Maguire joined the faculty at Cleveland State as an Assistant Professor in August of 2005. She has also taught at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, and Wayne State University in Detroit, MI. Dr. Maguire's research focuses on how individuals communicate under difficult circumstances. Her recent research addresses the role of communication in the coping process, using the context of long-distance romantic relationships to examine how coping influences perceptions of distress and relationship satisfaction. She has extended this research into the military context to understand how wartime deployments facilitate or constrain marital relationships. Other topics of interest include how individuals cope with hurtful family
environments, sexual violence, and chronic illness. She has presented
her research at regional, national, and international conferences, and
has published her work in books and scholarly journals. Education Dr. Maguire received a B.S. in Speech and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and an M.A. in Communication from the University of North Texas. In her free time, she enjoys playing pool, reading, hiking, exploring Cleveland, and spending time with her friends, family, and resident feline, Misty. |
