Expertise Professional Experience & Community Activities Eileen Berlin Ray has been teaching at Cleveland State University for 20 years. Her focus is in health communication and applied communication with an emphasis on communication among disenfranchised populations. She currently teaches courses in health communication and gender. Dr. Berlin Ray has served as the undergraduate program director and particularly enjoys the differences in age and experiences of her students. Dr. Berlin Ray's sixth book, Health Communication in Practice: A Case Study Approach, was published in 2005. In 2002, she won the National Communication Association's Gerald Phillips Applied Communication Scholar Award for her work in the application of health communication. In 2006 she was named one of CSU's Women Who Make a Difference and received the Cleveland State University Distinguished Teacher Award at fall convocation 2006. Education Dr. Berlin Ray earned her B.A. in Psychology in 1974 and her M.Ed. in
Counseling in 1975, both from the University of South Carolina. She received
her M.A. in Communication from Michigan State University in 1978 and her
Ph.D. from the University of Washington in 1981. When not teaching, she enjoys reading, eating, shopping, and thinking
about exercising. She has a 21-year old son, Bryan, and a 17- year old
daughter, Lesley. She especially likes spending time with her husband
and, when they're around, their children. |
