School of Communication Ranked Eighth in Research Productivity!

The School of Communication at Cleveland State University has been ranked
8th among communication programs in the United States. The study published
in the Communication Quarterly rated faculty research productivity in
the years 1995-2001. Three current faculty members made the Top 100
list: David Atkin, Leo Jeffres and Robert Abelman.
The School's ranking is more striking as it is one of only 3 master's
degree programs to make the list. The other top 20 schools are all doctoral
granting institutions. The School of Communication at Cleveland State
offers an undergraduate and a master's degree.
Atkin does research examining the regulation of media and new technologies.
Jeffres is a champion of the community newspaper. Abelman has been heavily
involved with the development of new children's television programming.
"We've known for a long time how productive our faculty is,"
said Richard M. Perloff, director of the School of Communication. "But
it's always nice to be recognized among your peers."
The top school was West Virginia. Michigan State University, University
of Georgia, Kent State University and the University of Wisconsin rounded
out the top five.
