40th Anniversary Student ReceptionThe College of Education and Human Services hosted a student reception and awards recognition on April 2, 2008. Attended by approximately 350 students, parents, friends, faculty, and staff, the reception was part of the College’s ongoing Fortieth Anniversary Celebration. Not only did the reception give the College the opportunity to celebrate the efforts of all students in education and human services, it also enabled the College to acknowledge, publicly, the contributions of students whose academic performance and volunteer efforts were worthy of added distinction. Moderated by Dr. Tom Frew, Professor of Special Education, the program included greetings by Dean Jay McLoughlin and inspirational remarks by Dennis Kowalski, Director of the Greater Cleveland Educational Development Center. Everyone in the beautiful Fenn Tower Panel Room joined Dean McLoughlin in singing “Happy Birthday” to the College. For the awards recognition, certificates of recognition were presented to 81 current and former students. Dr. Cliff Bennett of the Department of Teacher Education and Dr. Jim Carl of the Department of Curriculum and Foundations did the honors. A high point of the afternoon was definitely the raffle, in which three lucky students were awarded scholarships good for three- or four credit COEHS courses in the summer or fall semesters. Other giveaways included Cleveland Indians memorabilia and gift certificates to the CSU bookstore. Special thanks go to the staff members who organized the event: Suzanne Fitz, Jennifer Higgins, Sharon Jefferson, Eileen Logan, and Jay Simmons. A great time was had by all, and hopefully the student reception will be repeated next spring. Hope to see you there!
