Springfest lassos up a good time

By Matthew Gadus

“Springfest in the Wild West” was the theme of this year’s annual event held on April 23 near Fenn Tower on Euclid Avenue.
The rodeo-western theme was accompanied by a mechanical bull, horseshoe pits, BBQ food and square dancing instruction. Other activities included antique photos, a cow milking station, a lasso and whip show and shoot’em up contests for prizes. CSU’s Campus Activities Board gave out Springfest T-shirts, cowboy garb to support the event’s theme.
Springfest is an event for students traditionally, but this year the whole CSU community was invited, according to Kennie Brown, marketing director of CAB. Springfest also served to show off CSU’s campus to potential students.
“Springfest is just an entertaining event and fun event for CSU students before the end of the semester,” said Tina Goldfarb, business manager of CAB.
Springfest has been a tradition for more than 10 years. Average attendance for past events has been approximately 2,000 people, according Goldfarb. This year’s event drew at least the same number of participants, according to CAB estimates.
The four-hour event was free to students and cost faculty and staff only $5 for food.
The Student Environmental Movement, who co-sponsored the event along with CAB and the Greek Council, had tables set up with more of an Earth Day theme and also invited local eco-friendly businesses to take part.
