Foreign media focus on candidates'
views on war in Iraq, trade

By Jennifer Spike

Eyes from around the country and the world watched closely as Cleveland State University hosted the last democratic presidential debate before the March 4 primaries.
More than 500 media credentials were issued, according to Brian Johnston, director of marketing and public affairs.
International media have kept a particular eye on this U.S. presidential race.
“This race in America is fascinating to observe,” said Laura Haim, US Correspondent for France’s television channel, Canal Plus. “There are a lot of uncertainties on many issues, and things are changing minute by minute.”
International trade and the war in Iraq were among important issues debated among the candidates. These issues have a substantial interest in the world media.
“Many people all over the world, especially in Europe are angry with President Bush and the decisions he has made. The world is curious to see if America’s policies, specifically in Iraq are going to change or stay the same,” said Haim. “The world wants to know what is next.”
